Wrestling

At North Country Grappling, we recognize that wrestling is a fundamental component of grappling, offering crucial skills in balance, control, and takedowns. Our wrestling sessions are designed to help you develop powerful stand-up techniques, but safety is our top priority.

We understand the intensity that comes with wrestling, especially in stand-up scenarios. That’s why our training emphasizes controlled practice and mindful movement. Every session is structured to ensure that all participants can train hard while minimizing the risk of injury.

My Background

I'm Melvin, the founder and head instructor at North Country Grappling. My journey in grappling began when I was just a kid, with wrestling in high school. I officially started training Jiu Jitsu at 10th Planet Denver, where I earned my blue belt in under a year from Connor Heun, with the help from TJ Steinbach—and 2 years later received my Purple Belt from Ryan Fennely at Team Link Hooksett!

When I started I was training 2-3 times a day, 5 days a week, immersing myself in the art and science of jiu jitsu. I traveled all over the United States over the years, visiting dozens of gyms, and testing my skills wherever I go. From small local gyms to world-renowned academies, I’ve had the privilege of learning from some of the best in the world, including Ryan Hall, Gordon Ryan, John Danaher, and Craig Jones.

At North Country Grappling, I bring all of these experiences and techniques to you, creating an environment where you can grow, learn, and push your limits. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced grappler, I'm here to help you on your journey.
